The short answer

What you need to know

Unpack an Ultione compressed sofa in the room where it will stay. Confirm every carton, clear the finished footprint, cut only loose outer packaging away from the fabric, and give the sections room to expand.

The safest place to open a compressed sofa is the final room, with the full recovered footprint already clear. Once the seal is open, a large soft section becomes harder to carry through a narrow turn.

Before delivery, compare models in the ULTI ONE compressed sofa collection and check the package information for the configuration you ordered.

Allow up to 72 hours for expansion and settling under ULTI ONE's current setup guidance. Prepare the full room footprint before opening the seal, because the released sections soon become full-size furniture. A useful sequence is: check the parcels, clear the room, identify the opening layers, release and place the sections, then observe their shape. The steps below cover that sequence without requiring another article.

For a US apartment or Canadian condo, take the sealed carton through the building route before opening it in the final room.

Before opening any carton

  1. Match the model, color, and chaise direction on the package label with the order.
Match expected parcels to tracking before treating a missing second box as a missing part.

  1. Confirm whether the order should contain one package or two.
  2. Photograph visible punctures, crushing, water marks, or torn carton areas.
  3. Move every delivered carton into the destination room with enough help for the listed weight.
  4. Clear the complete recovered width and depth, not only the space occupied by the box.
  5. Keep children, pets, sharp furniture edges, and hot surfaces away from the opening area.

Two-package orders may not reach the door at the same moment. Check each tracking number before opening the first carton or reporting the second one missing.

Open the outer layers without touching the upholstery

Follow the instructions supplied with the model. Open the kraft carton first, identify the loose outer plastic flap, and work slowly. If scissors are needed, use them only on plastic that can be lifted well away from the corduroy.

Do not drag a blade along a compressed surface. The upholstery is closer to the outside of the package than it will appear once the foam expands.

If the first package does not look like the whole sofa

Keep the carton label with the section it contained. The L is a one-package configuration; The U and The Big U include an additional package. For a two-package order, match both tracking records to the delivery before deciding something is missing from the first box.

Check the order’s configuration photograph as you identify the pieces. THE BIG UX uses its own symmetric arrangement, so an opening sequence or module diagram for a directional L layout should not be used to identify its contents.

Position the sections before full expansion

Move each released section onto a clean, level floor and turn it toward its final position. Current Ultione models need no frame assembly or tools. Setup is opening, positioning, and allowing the foam to recover.

Clear the finished footprint and leave the released sections free at their edges.

For The L, The U, and The Big U, confirm the chaise direction while the modules are still easier to move. THE BIG UX is symmetric and does not have separate left- and right-chaise versions.

Why the foam and cover need to recover together

The sofa is already upholstered before it is compressed. Precise foam cutting follows its intended contour; matched cloth panels form the arms and seat surface. When the restraint is removed, the cushioning regains volume inside that fitted cover. This is why you should position the body freely rather than pull at a seam to make a corner look taller.

Look at the complete shape first: front edge, arms and back. Then look at the corduroy surface. A broad rib changes shade when viewed from another direction; that does not change the height of the seat. Smooth a relaxed panel gently with the pile and leave a recovering body free around its edges.

What to expect after the seal opens

Opening releases the packed sections to recover toward their intended shape. The main outline and surface appearance can settle at different rates: corduroy creases are different from the height of a seat corner. Give the sections space and use the stated 72-hour settling window for a final outline check. Report visible tears, punctures or wet damage when you find them rather than waiting for recovery.

The inner film keeps the sofa in its reduced-volume shipping state; the corrugated carton supports and protects the parcel around it. Open those layers in the supplied sequence. Foam and upholstery are already fitted together beneath the packaging, so lift the identified loose flap clear before using scissors. Place the released body on the floor and keep its front and corners free while it takes shape.

At the next check, inspect matching front corners with the sofa unoccupied and back cushions normally positioned. If a dark patch changes when viewed from the other end, compare the rib direction. If the seat edge itself is lower, record the same side view again. A crease in a cover and a difference in the foam outline need different observations.

  • Leave open air space around every edge.
  • Keep boxes, tables, and other weight off recovering cushions.
  • Do not use strong direct heat to speed up the process.
  • Compare the sofa with its final dimensions once the sections have finished expanding.

Clear the packaging and verify the order

Move loose plastic out of the walking route as you open each piece, without discarding the label or evidence of damage. Keep cartons and relevant protection until the order and condition checks are complete. If something is damaged or missing, retain its packaging while support assesses the issue. Once the uncontested order checks are complete, flatten empty cartons and recycle permitted materials locally.

Keep labels until package count, color, orientation, and visible condition have been checked.

Keep a simple record of the first settling period

Record when the seal opened and name any area you are watching. Take a full view and a side view with the sofa unoccupied. Repeat the same lighting, camera position and cushion arrangement later, so the photographs show whether that area changed. Include the order number and package label if you contact support.

Care during the first week

Smooth the wide-wale corduroy gently in the direction of the ribs. Do not judge small surface marks while the upholstery is still relaxing. Follow the sewn-in care label before removing or washing a cover, because instructions can vary by color or production batch.

Use the sofa normally once it has regained its main shape, but avoid treating a recovering edge as a shelf or loading it with heavy objects.

When to stop and ask for help

Contact Ultione if the carton or upholstery is damaged, a tracked package is missing after checking its tracking details, or a section remains seriously misshapen.

Send the order number, product name, color, package label, full-room image, and close photographs. Explain what arrived, when it was opened, and what changed as the sofa expanded.

Before delivery, compare models in the Ultione compressed sofa collection and use the package details on the The Big U left-chaise product page to plan the route from the door to the room.
